Project Description

Pascol is a young startup that has revolutionized the sustainable meat market. Their goal was to create an e-commerce that reflects their innovative vision, offering an intuitive and engaging shopping experience. With a commitment to sustainability and quality, they needed a digital solution that could manage a wide assortment of products, highlighting the origin and quality of the meats offered.

The client was looking to transition from an existing software system, which had proven complex and costly to manage, to a more agile and tailored solution. The previous solution, heavily dependent on an external supplier, limited the client's operational flexibility and imposed significant restrictions on their daily activities. The goal was therefore to implement a customized, intuitive, and easy-to-maintain solution that could be managed independently by their creative team. The client, having no specialized software development skills, needed a system that could be used with ease and autonomy, thus allowing greater efficiency and creativity in their work processes.

At the heart of the project was the desire to express Pascol's unique value proposition. For this, we developed a site balanced between institutional information and an online store. Every component, from interactive maps of Italy to promotional banners, to graphic components and contact forms, was designed to communicate Pascol's identity and values, offering users an immersive and informative experience.

SHOPIFY

To stay within the limited budget assigned for the development of Pascol's e-commerce, we opted for SHOPIFY as the starting platform. This choice proved strategic for several reasons: firstly, Shopify offers low maintenance costs. Moreover, it eliminates the need to have a technical figure dedicated to server infrastructure management, simplifying the system aspect. The e-commerce giant obviously provides a vast array of built-in features for shop management, including advanced inventory and order management, which have helped optimize Pascol's internal processes, allowing efficient use of available resources.

Shopify

To ensure flexibility and ease of use of the platform for everyone, we designed a series of custom components in Liquid, Shopify's templating language. These components were designed to be intuitive and easily manipulable, allowing Pascol's internal team to create and modify landing pages, manage content, and move components with ease.

Below is an example of a custom Liquid component, which allows for autonomous content management and the definition of their graphic layout directly from the back office, without the need to intervene in the code.

Thanks to these tools, the Pascol team was able to update the site autonomously. This meant greater speed in updating content and complete independence in the daily management of the site, making the e-commerce platform accessible to those without specific web development skills.

Graphic components designed for improved UX

Among the various components created, an interactive map stands out, allowing users to easily explore the breeders affiliated with the Pascol network, organized by region. This component was carefully designed to ensure high performance and an optimized user experience, with UX interfaces that differ significantly between desktop and mobile. As with all components created, the operation of adding new breeders to the system was greatly simplified, eliminating the need to intervene directly in the code.

Taking advantage of the METAFIELDS that Shopify provides, we were able to deliver to the client a simple yet very powerful component.

GIT: an essential choice

To ensure solidity in the release of new features we opted for the use of GIT, an essential tool. This allowed us to create distinct environments for development, testing, and production and keep them aligned over time.

Unlike the standard Shopify approach, which often relies on simple copy and paste of themes, our solution with Git led to a more structured and professional workflow. Through a very simple approach, but often unknown to average Shopify users, all stakeholders were able to test and validate each new feature in a controlled environment before the actual release, thus ensuring quality and stability. This approach allowed for more efficient and secure management of changes to the site, reducing the risk of errors or issues once moved into production.

SHOP CUSTOM - High number of product variants limitation

One of the most challenging aspects of the Pascol project was managing a high number of variants for each product. Each item, take for example 'the Fiorentina,' had to be offered in multiple variants, which could reach and exceed a thousand combinations, given by different breeds and breeders (necessary data linked to Pascol's unique supply chain traceability). These numbers exceeded the maximum limit of variants manageable by Shopify.

To overcome this hurdle, we employed JavaScript to create a dynamic and interactive shopping experience. The devised solution allowed for the display and management of an exponentially greater number of variants. This approach did not neglect performance, offering users a smooth browsing experience without loading times, despite the underlying complexity.

Results and Feedback

PROBLEM

The client was looking for a transition from an existing software system, which had proven complex and costly to manage, to a more agile and tailored solution.

SOLUTION

The final result was the development of a highly performant e-commerce, which fully met Pascol's expectations. This solution provided effective and flexible content management. What particularly impressed Pascol was the platform's versatility: it enabled the rapid implementation of new features and gave the client the power to independently manage the addition and updating of products, as well as the creation and modification of landing pages and blog articles. This was facilitated by the use of intuitive templates and easily reusable components. The response from the end users has been extraordinarily positive. We recorded a significant increase in conversions, attributable both to the implementation of A/B testing and to continuous improvements based on user feedback.

Conclusion

With the Pascol project, we demonstrated how a customized e-commerce solution can be much more than a simple sales channel.

This platform tells the brand's story, creating a deep and authentic connection with its customers. Every function, from a simple click to more complex navigation, has been designed to encourage the customer to finalize the purchase.

The success of the project underscores our commitment to innovation, demonstrating that, with the right strategy and technological solutions, a company can radically transform the way it interacts and connects with its audience.
